Bernadine Yatawara - Development Specialist"What is different and best about GENINDE training programs on Gender?
I am a female-development practitioners with long years of experience in the development field in Sri Lanka. I always had some confusion and somewhat terrified with the Gender Trainings I had before. It always made the 'Man' the villain and the 'woman' the hero. To me it created conflict within me as well as with the rural communities I worked with; if I had to practice the knowledge imparted at these training programs. However I was fortunate to follow an online "Gender & Development" Course with the GENINDE which gave a more balanced and grounded outlook towards Gender to link with Development. Today I am very comfortable to talk about Gender in any social group and also am able to see the gaps we have created in the journey-of development in Sri Lanka and hope to narrow these gaps in my future work. Saranga Jayarathne - BSc Agriculture Peradeniya, Master of Development Practice Peradeniya
"This course was the most interesting and practical gender training I have ever had in my life. It really made me think through our life experiences and provided me with great real life practical experiences to accept and respect diversity.
What I have seen before, was more into radical feminisms and also direct importation of what is being taught or discussed in a different context may it be West or East. Dr. Nishadi’s way of teaching and training is so different. She taught us to rationally acknowledge the great gendered values that we had within our cultures, communities and religions and build the discussion from there onwards to make our society a better place for all genders."
